Anyone Looking For a Bar Harbor 31
« on: January 01, 2009, 06:49:21 PM »
There are precious few Bar Harbor 31's remaining, and only 1 afloat (Desperate Lark).  Flight is in Chicago, reportedly in bad shape and not very long away from the executioner's chainsaw.  If there is anyone out there with the desire (and wallet) to restore a truly beautiful boat, there isn't much time left to save her!

Has this one been on Bray's radar? Would think WB would have her on the back "save me" page by now....

Is there any other info? What yard, contact info, etc...

Given some of the email conversations I have been having over the past few days, for sure Maynard knows about the situation now, if he didn't before.  I think there are a number of folks looking for a benefactor to save this boat before the chainsaw starts.

I don't have much more in the way of contact info ... there is a man in Maine who is speaking to the son in Chicago trying to determine how much time we have, etc.  I will try and get some pictures as well.

This is a very interesting piece writen in Rudder mag - Seems "Flight" had a very good racing record - at least in 1916 ! :)

I can't believe someone out there wouldn't want her....Be very sad if she met the chain saw  :-\

Bill Beardsley is trying to organize a rescue mission, but I don't think there is any movement yet.

Well, I have sad news about Flight. Someone was found to move her to the east coast, and probably restore her. A trucker had been lined up and there was even a deposit paid to the trucker. However, when the potential new owner called the owner back, he said he'd decided to cut her up, and no amount of pleading would change his mind. Maybe he wants the scrap value of the lead, although I bet that was offered. I'm going to have the person in Maine who has been talking to the owner for years make one last plea, but it doesn't sound good.

So now we have to find Zara. Anybody live near Hartselle, Alabama?

What would possess someone to rather cut up a hull then sell it - especially if it was equal or > to the value of the "parts"?  ??? Makes no sense to me. I hope you convince them otherwise....

On Zara - Steve had the Idea to e-mail local jewelers as "Johnny T" is a jeweler somewhere there. I don't think Steve has received any replies as of yet.
