I ask because I have observerd two behaviors with regards to contracted boats of the time period:

1. There are times the contracts would be "canceled" by the contractee before completion.
2. The "first" owners in many cases sell there boats almost imediately - or within a season or two.

I had assumed that much of this was due to those buying in those days (the well to do) and the need to always be on top with the fastest boat and the next better design. This behavior was mentiond by Sherman Hoyt in his memoirs. But you know what they say about assumtions....

Hello all !

I have got this Herreshoff book in a 2006 french version since a few months. Photographs bye Franco PACE and texts by Friedrich W. POHL. French translation bye Alain BORIES with the help of Norene RICKSON an archivist at Herreshoff Museum.
Page 14 yes we have two pictures of the launch of ODYSSEY but none of the Adam's ones above.
The text says: "The S&S designed yawl ODYSSEY delivered in 1930 by HMCo to the DuPont family is now sailing for a training school".
This text is wrong. I have the Olin Stephens book by Franco PACE: page 11 John Lammerts van Bueren writes "Yawl ODYSSEY launch at Nevins, City Island"
The problem with such pictures books is that the pics are as good as the texts are poor or wrong ...

Cover picture is first on the left below. Do use password, sorry  :'(

The second book is by Maynard BRAY et Carlton PINHEIRO, published at Bristol, RI in 1989 (first edition) and in 2005 by the Herreshoff Marine Museum.
The third book is by L. Francis HERRESHOFF, published at Editions Sheridan House, New York, 1953.
