How to Launch my 12 1/2 in Port Clyde, ME?
« on: June 12, 2009, 03:57:54 PM »
Hi all,
I have asked for Steve's help previously.  We have had "Tournesol" (hull 1113) since 2003.  Since we live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland but also have a place off the coast of Port Clyde, ME, every summer we trailer her back and forth to take advantage of the best winds in the summer.  Most years we have launched and hauled her at Lyman-Morse in Thomaston, but the 10 NM journey can be tricky if the winds and tide are just right.  (Also L-M closes at noon on Friday so that creates another logistic problem, not to mention the $$.) So I am looking for a better alternative.

We have a trailer, but no extended tongue. Also, we aren't keen on dumping the trailer in the salt water since we have no fresh water source to hose it down since our place in ME is an island.  Plus, we don't have 3 people to help us try and get her back on the trailer for hauling.  Any ideas?

We were up in ME (sans 12 1/2) a few weeks ago.  I saw "Sora" (Jamie Wyeth's) was on the floating dock at Lyman Morse in Tenant's Harbor.  She looked in great shape.

Does anyone have a contact for George Emery there since I understand he used to maintain some of the boats up there?

Steve

Have you tried the following:

Don't have a phone # but the Harbor Master may be a good resource - Email - hbrmstr@stgeorgemaine.com . Ask if he knows anyone with Lift/Rail in the area.

Here is a list of Boat Builders in the area. Seems to me Padebco Custom Boats is a bit closer and to the west of Port Clyde then Lyman-Morse (Which is NE). Not sure the Winds up there, but here ‎I can count on a SW most days, so this could be a pleasent reach.....Give them a call and see if they have a Lift/rail.

This is a lis of ramps in and around PC - but I fully understand your feelings about launching this way....

Port Clyde General Store - Give them a call if they know anyone - 207-372-6543 moorings, gas, diesel, water, ice, showers

Midcoast Yacht Brokerage, Port Clyde, ME  : Rasberry Lane, Port Clyde, ME, USA, (Tel) 843-737-3849  - Ask the same....

Lastly, you might want to post this question over at WBF - Lots of Maine Folk that might have better suggestions....
