Subject: steering parts
Hi Joe
I got my Herrshoff Scout back from the painter and immediately took it to the trailer co. on their loaner trailer 3 weeks ago. It took them that long to get a trailer made for it. I go to pick it up last Sat. and they had scratched the hull in several places and now it has to go back to the painter again. Their expense but I can see an arguement brewing already between them and the painter. My luck.
Got a question for you.
The boat has a make shift tiller added to the top of the rudder head to get it over the transom an into the cockpit it works and its fine. But I would like to go back to as close as possible to original (wheel steering) equipt on this boat as I can. I found an old cable a red plastic cable with an inscription "MORSE E 304415-120IN 4427" one end is rusted off. I have the old wheel but nothing of the of the bulkhead mechanism to connect it to exists. Just an empty hole. The transom still has a small slot where some sort of short tiller must have been connected to the cable.
Any ideas on what I can do to find the parts to bring this back to close to original.
Thanks
Scott Silvia
