This won't sound kind, but I think the Herreshoff name attached to the catboats, sloops, Scouts and Harbor Pilots is overly emphasized. Halsey Herreshoff designed it, of course, and it may be related to an earlier Herreshoff half model but it's essentially a catboat hull in different arrangements. Marshall Marine pretty much dominates the market in the line of small catboats.  The Pilot is a yet more specialized boat and therefore in an even thinner market.  But your boat is well restored and is just waiting for someone who wans an open harbor cruiser of the type.

Yea .....  ;)  The only reason my Herreshoff Harbor Pilot was the # 1 boat viewed on Yacht World is because of the " Herreshoff " name .......  That being said the Pilot is still a cool little boat that turns heads, everywhere she cruises.

Thanks ......Adam

I'm going to post up the listing before its deleted !

This is a VERY RARE FIND! This Nauset launch is a Hershoff design and is very hard to find. this boat is perfectly set up, with a wide open cockpit area and horseshoe style transom seating. Comes with a bimini top as well. It is a full inboard, powered by a B.M.W. 45 HP Diesel, with 855 hrs. The cabin has ample space for storage and sleeping. Quite the unusual boat and it is easy enough to trailer! Would be great boat for Boston area and the Cape! HERE IS YOUR CHANCE!! $14,500 Call for more information Tel# 508 525 2710.

I think that Pilot was just sold (without a trailer) at the Massachusetts Maritime Institute auction.  I looked into trying to buy it last year but it had already been donated to the Institute.  Must be a re-sell.  Looks pretty good.

Jack > that's Correct , it was " Sky King "..... The Pilot looks a little clean up (wood trim), since the last foto i have of her ......  What do you think she sold for at the auction ?

The Academy had listed a dollar figure beside the description of each boat up for auction but I'm not sure if they were value indicators or related to minimum bids.  Anyway, Sky King's number was $14,000.  I didn't bid on her because there was no trailer with the boat.  So I have no idea what she went for.

Luckily I stumbled across my Pilot which was a great deal less.

I agree on the clean-up you mentioned,  The boat looks a lot better than the previous pictures I had seen.

In looking at the above pictures , I don"t believe " Sky King " has a Mast or Boom that comes with the sale of the boat .

Older picture of Sky King before she was dontated to MMA.

Cool Partial Restoration Video of a Herreshoff Eagle _ "DIVA"....

http://vimeo.com/3340308

The Eagle hulls came from the same mold of Herreshoff America catboat, but the rig is very different, having an effective headsail and optional topsail that enhanced performance in light air conditions.
Diva was built in the 1974 by Nowak & Williams of Bristol, Rhode Island. Now Diva is sailing in Italy, in Bari. We have stripped the deck and painted it and cockpit sole in beige and the cabin trunk and cockpit surround in white. We have removed and polished all the bronze hardware.

Joe,
After watching the Diva restoration video I got to wondering if the owner of the sailboat coated the brass fittings with something after restoring them to such brilliance.  What did you do on your Pilot?

I used  3M™ Emery Polishing Paper , they looked great until i put the Pilot in the water last Aug. for two weeks.  They now have that patina look again ,but without the green color.  One of the reasons i clean up the bronze hardware was the previous owner of my pliot had years of paint brush spots on all the cleats from painting the topside.

If you coat them with varnish paint , it will only wear off with use .
If you polish them with car wax , it would last a little longer ,but you first have to clean them with Emery polishing Paper.

My cleats should clean right up with just some bronze polish cleaner ....
