Herreshoff Anchors
« on: September 08, 2009, 02:35:48 AM »
Guy on CL is selling two original Herreshoff Anchors - He sent me pics and they look like originals to me - the Galvanized ones. One is 25# and the other 42.5# - He's asking 200.00 and 300.00 respectively - which seem like a bargain. I'll try and post the pics later....

Hi folks,
I've been e-mailing this fellow who sent a picture and informed me that the 26# anchor he has for sale ($200)was made by Wilcox-Crittenden to the Herreshoff yacht anchor design.  The anchor is a two piece round stock galvanized.  This anchor is significantly different than the three piece bar stock anchors pictured in HERRESHOFF OF BRISTOL.
Not being an authentic HMC anchor...I'm not sure of its true value or even if I would want it for my FI 23.
Anybody have any comments?
Thanks,
Hutch

Hmmm he had stated they were HMCo.... Anyway I missed the sliding stock - although I thought only the smallest ones were three piece - larger ones either two piece or sliding. I believe the fluke design on the WC, Nevins and Lawleys versions were the same as HMCo. That said, LFH was pretty critical of these "copies".... I keep forgeting to post the pics....

Thanks Adam,
I think I'll pass on this anchor in hopes of locating an original or Reineck repro.

I've been searching for an original for years - only a couple of times have I seen them - and they want BIG money....The Reineck ones are beauties though! The sizes are to small for my boat so I went with a somewhat rare folding Dirigo kedge - not a Herreshoff but it is salty looking  ;)
