Nellie Restoration - HMCo 586
« on: August 03, 2009, 11:25:24 PM »
I am pleased to report that we are coming to the end of a 2+ year restoration of HMCo "Nellie."  She was one of a few mid-sized racer cruisers commissioned at the Herreshoff yard.  We have build a nice little website that chronicles the history of the boat as well as the restoration.  We have posted hundreds of photos that can be viewed in the gallery section.  Please visit www.synellie.com Highlights of the restoration process include interior joinery work by Warren Pond Boatworks, mechanical and systems integration by Whiting Marine Services, cabin house and spars by French & Webb, rigging and sails by Nat Wilson and castings and blocks by Jim Reineck.  It's been a fantastic journey and we are looking forward to launch day this coming October.  I have a wealth of information about our process and would be glad to speak or correspond with those interested in learning more...

Adam - Thanks for checking out the site... the photos posted to the site are about 3 weeks old now and we're full guns facing forward with a goal of closing up the interiors and canvassing the deck in the next 5 -7 days.  Then we're off and running on cockpit coaming and toe/taft rails... etc. The goal is to launch in early October and do a "soft" shakedown and modifications over the late fall and winter.  We plan on cruising/racing her next summer... yee hah!

Do you know of anyone who needs an original Herreshoff sheet winch?

Hi Jeff - Don't know anyone looking for a winch - but posting it here is a pretty good start to finding an interested party. I can however find you crew when you need it  ;)

Adam - You got it!  Nat Wilson is building the sails right now and reports that her rig will be larger and more powerful that the BB30's so all hands on deck are going to be necessary...We are looking forward to a very active season in 2010 so you're more than welcome to join in sweating the 140 + feetof main sheet...

Jeff:  I saw a thread on the Wooden Boat Forum about your launching on October 18.  Wow ... she is a beauty!  Congratulations - you must be justifiably proud!  It certainly is gratifying to see a number of top-notch restorations taking place in recent years.
