We lost the rudder off of Lindenhurst beating back from a CANCELED Babylon 4th of July Regatta. They canceled because of too much wind on the third day, which forced us to beat all the way home in a building south west wind.
Just past Bergen Point we shot straight up into the wind, and I caught glimpse of the lower part of the rudder bobbing off towards the Babylon Channel. She must've sheared at the lower pintle, and let go just below the cheek-blocks. Paul Ketcham carved us a new rudder using hardware from CCSB. I remember Dad going down to check on the project at Muriel Ketcham showing the rudder stored on their bed. Paul didn't want anyone scratching it while he was "up getting his ears lowered".
