Title: Arion is for sale....

Mr. Sid's "Arion" is up for sale... Always thought she was a very interesting design. Historically significant (maybe not for many here  ;) ) she is considered the first large sailing yacht built specifically for that new fangled material frozen snot...er, I mean Fiberglass....

I was always intrigued by the fact that Sidney seem to be OK with Fiberglass and his brother so against. Compare her to one of LFH's Roz's.....The ad states she is an enlargement to Roz, but I believe she was actually designed before LFH did Roz.

I've never been a huge fan of the canoe stern

A. S. deW. Herreshoff's Arion was launched May 15, 1951 and was designed in 1950 or 1951.

L. F. Herreshoff's Rozinante was designed in 1956.

Arion's (beautiful!) model is in the collection of the Herreshoff Marine Museum.

You want a fine-looking derriere?  Check out the stern of a Buzzards Bay 15.

I went aboard her a few years ago in her shed.  The steering is a linked setup so the tiller is ahead of the mizzen while the rudder is aft. It felt clunky and irregular so I wonder how much 'feel' she'd have.  As you'd expect on a shallow, narrow, canoe body the space below is limited, but what a ride she must be!!

STEVE - Why do you feel that way about Canoe Stern's ? Is its appearance rather than its design ?........  I would think coming in an Inlet with a big following sea , she would handle better.
