Title: 1960 Fletcher 16 ft Wooden Comet Class Daysailor - Restoration
Post by: Cardinal Joe on February 21, 2010, 07:13:20 PM: Well I purchase a 1960 16 ft Comet Class Daysailor . She is all Ceder Wood , I already started sanding the top deck of this baby !

Post by: Adam on February 22, 2010, 02:50:50 AM: Id have to go back a few years but I trhink the fletchers in there time where very competitive in the class. I sailed some comets as a kid - Still a pretty strong class on LI on the south shore....

The unfinish strips of wood are 18 ft long Mahogany Trim that is going 360 degrees around the top side deck !

Fletcher built a lot of day sailors and club racers, I used to crew in the O.C.Y.C. Lightning fleet back in the late 70's / early 80's on a Fletcher built Lightning. Also saw a lot of his GP 14's, along with those Comets.
I think Fletcher also built some Moths too, but not absolutely sure on that one....
Nice old wooden sail boat Joe, early evenings when most of the back bay fleet is at dock, gentle breeze, a couple of cocktails, and cruise around the bay til the sun goes down.....
