Title: hinged mast on herreshoff 18
Post by: makani on August 09, 2010, 05:06:15 PM
I would like to hear some of the pros and cons as to having a hinged mast on any catboat up to 20 ft.
Also what is the best way to do it.
Thanks

Dave

Tabernacles seem to be very popular with the trailer sailor set - or I suppose those that have to go under low bridges to access open water...

I know most of the mast manufacturers, and builders of the 18' sized cats offer tabernacles, so retro fitting shouldn't be a problem. Most Cats, due I assume to the increased pressure on the mast, seem to have a "socket" type arangement vers just a simple hinge.
