Title: Herreshoff Schooner?
Post by: Adam on June 28, 2011, 03:48:07 PM
Speaking to a women who claims that her Father owned a Herreshoff Schooner back in the 1940's. She was registered as an Aux Schooner in the 1940's out of the Boston YC Named "L'DERRIE".

The dementions she gave me are:

59.3  W.L. 41.6 Beam 13.8 and Draft 17.6 (I assume the Draft was a typo and is really 7.6)

This closely matches a NY 40 - and several have been re-rigged as schooners - and also close to the schooner "HASWELL".

Any Idea's who she was - and If she was really a Herreshoff?

And no, HH,  I have not referenced the Taglang book yet...  ;)

The boat's name doesn't ring a bell.  Do we know her father's name?

The 1940 Lloyd's Register of American Yachts does not list her.

I am quite familiar with HMCo schooners, but the name does not ring a bell with me.

It might be an L. F. Herreshoff boat not built at HMCo, but: L. F. Herreshoff apparently does not list her in his index of Herreshoff yachts.

Hi HH - i am almost certain her fathers boat was not HMCo. - nothing really fits. Could always be an LFH design, but without more it remains unknown in my book. I'll see if she comes up with more.
