Title: Coquina
Post by: Reynard38 on April 03, 2012, 11:06:01 PM
I'm new here and hopefully it isn't taboo to post a pic of a Herreshoff that I built. Coquina is my 2nd build. Plans from Doug Hylan in Brooklyn ME. 18 months and about 1500 hours to complete. Launched yesterday on Lake Lanier GA.

Nice work.  Jon Hutchison, a member here, recently completed the restoration of his Fishers Island 23, CRUSADER.  His prior project was a Coquina.  Very nice boats.

Very nice!  I see you built traditional method (the harder and more impressive way).  My Coquina is glued plywood...tough but not as pretty or correct.  From what I can see, your workmanship is excellent.  We love our Coquina and have trailered her all over New england and the mid west.  The only change I've made is to cut down the CB so it doesn't project up above the case.  This looks cleaner and makes the boat easier to row.  No change in performance...Maynard Bray has done this also.  Contact me anytime...my photos are here

     Who made your sails?

I could stare at CRUSADERS hull all day. What a surface.

If I may venture a guess, Nat Wilson.

Looks great!

Being from western PA, I've made close acquantance with Dave Beirig of Erie.  He takes great pride in producing classic sails (he's done a set for the square rigger Niagara) and is especially fond of Herreshoff boats.  He's done our Coquina sails and at this time is completing a new main, jib, genoa, and all covers for CRUSADER. His work is exceptional.
