As you probably know, the Newport 29, the 12 1/2 footer, and the Buzzards Bay 25 were all introduced in 1914. This year marks their 100th year, and several commemorative events are being planned. We encourage you to attend as many of these as you can:
If you have any questions, you can call the number associated with the event or contact Andy Giblin at (860) 572-7710.

I'm planning to be at the first 4.... Jon - you coming down for the Nationals?
Steve - What "commemorative events" are being planned?
There is also the Newport Classic Yacht Regatta - August 30, 2014 - August 31, 2014....I usually swing down for that as well....

You may want to give Andy Giblin a call to get the inside scoop. I know the CYS is a commemorative event, I believe the Coecles Harbor event is as well. And I'll bet they will have something at the Herreshoff Regatta.

I called Andy today, what a nice guy. He gave me Bill Beardsley's email, so i sent something out to him offering my services if I can help get other 12 1/2 owners to participate in the events. As you can imagine I am really jazzed up to get my boat in the water and play with the other 12s, especially around the centennial events. Steve, can we mass email the 12 1/2ers on the registry or something. We have to get the numbers up, there were only four or five 12s at the Herreshoff Regatta last year. I'll help in any way I can.
Andy said there might be an attempt to do something at the Classic Boat Regatta in Newport if the participation is good.
Coecles is a stretch for the 12s, because Nantucket would be difficult to sail to and expensive to ferry the boat out to.

Erick: I'm sure I can come up with a script that will generate a list of 12-1/2 owners email addresses. Do you want to compose the text of a message?
-
Sure I can write something, and i can forward it to you to edit.

Isn't that on Shelter Island, and not Nantucket?

Yup ... Shelter Island

I've just written to Erick, and we will be working on this together. Imagine - this boat came out a hundred years ago and has never been out of production.

Yes John, you are correct, i was getting it mixed up with the opera house which is on Nantucket, but Shelter Island would be a hike as well for boats not already on Long Island.
