In the early 50's there was an article in Yachting showing a new design by Sydney Herreshoff - the Islander class. Looks like a scaled down S-Class (and the article states as such). The article also stated that Quisset YC was expected to order a fleet for the coming year (1953) - they were wood built in the UK and shipped over. Anyone know if they actually existed?
-
I don't know about a Quisset connection, but I do know of a few Islanders scattered about the US.

The Islander model by Sidney is in the Model Room Workshop.

Hi, I recently purchased the Islander from Malcolm (mentioned a couple of posts ago ) in Northern Ireland and will be kept in Strangford Lough. I will try and upload a photo of her. She is a 1954 model with sail number 3. Any information on the history of this model would be welcomed.

Welcome Ian and Spindrift - would love to see pictures!
Don't have much on the Islander class other then whats stated here. I think with a little research you might be able to determine how many of these were built and by whom. I assume all were built in the UK - with some imported to the US. Doesn't appear the class took hold here in the US though. Maybe there were a number built on speculation and they remained mostly in the UK.

Here is a photo of Spindrift. She is out of the water over this winter to get some ribs repaired, and the hull will be stripped back to check the caulking.
