Title: new renovation
Post by: Alaskan Sailor on October 31, 2008, 03:13:14 AM
We are renovating a 26 ft 1926 Herreshoff. built in San Diego. Anyone know anything about this vessel?

You'll need to give us a bit more information.  Does she have a hull number?  Do you have any pictures?  How is she rigged?

The obvious question is:  Herreshoff, 1926, and San Diego don't typically go together.  If it is an HMC boat, it would not have been built in San Diego.  It could be an S-Boat (27 feet) or a 15-footer (25 feet).  Or maybe it could be an L. Francis Herreshoff design?

Seems some builders out west copied Herreshoff designs  - Here is one built 1939 by Paul Lindwall - although the design dosent look very much like NGH IMO, but I suppose I could be wrong, and was my understanding Lindwall designed his own boats - lots of west coast fisheries power boats I think in the 30's, 40's and 50's...So I'm not convinced it's really a Herreshoff but....:

Anyway, I supose it's possible another west coast builder copied a design, although since nothing was on paper in those days someone would have to have taken lines off an actual hull.....I too would like to see pics....
