Hi,
My understanding is that Mokulele was built after WW2 by the base wood shop at Pearl Harbor. I was told this by someone who was stationed there and got to sail her in the 1950's. They likely used leftover ballasts from the original Herreshoff boats to build Mokulele and Panini, the other USN S-Boat.
Also I think Volunteer is a Herreshoff built boat. She's got the same planking schedule, ballast and hull straps as the other Herreshoff boats, just missing her hull plate. Sufi is the Lawley built boat from the Long Island Fleet, it's up in Newport on the hard.
