Classic Dinghy
« on: April 03, 2009, 05:34:29 PM »
I thought I posted this here before but I guess not -  and the word "Classic" in this case may be a bit over-used....But...

I’m looking for information on a small say 9' or 10' Dinghy produced in “Chepachet, RI” called an “Adirondack” - my guess in the 70's or 80's. I’ve asked all my RI boat guy’s and have not had any luck. The boat is a fiberglass copy of a classic wine glass lapstrake dinghy - not to be confused with the more canoe like “Adirondack Guide Boats” - why the name I don’t know. Seems to be a very high quality build...

Anyone know who the builder was??

Not I.

But since you bring up the topic, I've always wanted an Adirondack Guide Boat.  Maybe time to look for some plans.

Well I found out they were built by the old Adirondack Canoe Company by builder John Devine in Chepachet, RI - I believe based on a 10' Whitehall (a bit wider, making them more Tenders). Seems he's still dealing in small boats as the Glocester Boat Sales - and carries small classic skiffs like those built by Arborvitae Wood Working.

And yes, I think you should build an Adirondack.... ;)

Yeah, yeah ...

It will hafta be one of those with a single seat in the aft so SWIMBO faces forward and has the back of a classic Adirondack chair.

Just make sure there is room for the lady's parasol, the gillie and the 19th century fly fishing gear....
