  She was moored t Keihi Lagoon on Oahu in 1990, when the state ended the free moorage she went up for auction, and was bought by a guy named Skip ,who is a sculptor and chainsaw carver based in Sisters Oregon. I don't know his last name ,even though I knew him fairly well.  He had her at Ala Wai harbor. I sailed on the Wizard many  times, regular sunset cruises  around Waikkik,and  some inter-island the boat was almost  100 years old ,after all. . adventures -the difference bewtween an adventure and a disaster is an adventure is successful.  I was involved in working on the hull when she was hauled in '95 Haven't  seen her or Skip since '97

Thanks for the information.  I don't know about Skip, but Wizard is in the midst of a restoration in Pearl Harbor.

Actually, Wizard of Bristol is in restoration in Kapolei (Formerly known as Barber's Point).  Large stack of lumber next to her.  Project has been ongoing since about 2004.  I last saw the vessel in April 2011. 

Hull work is well progressed, master craftsman is at work on her although he spends time with family back in Port Townsend, WA.  I've seen his restoration work previously and it is top quality.  Next time I'm out that way, I'll take pictures and talk with the project manager.

Hi All,

Sorry for not being very active recently but I have been visiting regularly. I just wanted to give you an update on Chinook. After a tough and frustrating 18 months of financial difficulties, we have finally secured the budget and will be starting the restoration early in the new year. She should be on the race course for the 2013 season here in the Med.

I have been following the posts about The Wizard. So cool that another has been found. I mailed Charles a while back for more info but got no reply. He suggested that she might be available and if so I may have an interested party.

Finally, I have been doing a bit of sleuthing myself but now need some help. I have a book compiled but never published by Chris Madsen who restored Rowdy. In it he mentions a certain yacht broker called Jurek Pilek who used to sail on Mistral and who last saw her sailing off to Europe under the new ownership of a German around 2002. Intrigued, I traced Jurek to California and tried to contact him without success. Perhaps one of you might have better luck.

Hi Jono.  Good news that the restoration of CHINOOK will begin.  I hope to be speaking with the owner of WIZARD in the next day or so, and will inquire regarding his intentions to sell.

I'll try contacting Jurek as well.

Mistral --- Herreshoff --- Germany: That sounds like the 82' L.
Francis Herreshoff schooner Mistral, built in 1938.

Wonderful boat, but not the NY40 you are looking for.

But then, I have never heard any reports of the NY40 #774s Mistral after WW II either.
