Restoring my Bristol Herreshoff 29.9 with no money or knowledge
« on: January 30, 2010, 01:42:35 AM »
i bought a Bristol Herreshoff 29.9 1968, and I really don't know what I'm doing...I can sail the darn thing but that's about it...I have started to redo the deck because NOTHING was properly backed (I didn't know what a preventer was and while relieving myself my boom swung round and busted my head - ripping out a stansion), I had a blown apart goose-neck and fittings which will get done today hopefully, I've ripped out the galley and extended the quarter birth to be more parlor, and I have an electric engine (a duffy motor) that I'm waiting on a bracket for (to mount it inside on the shaft)...I need to pull off the rudder because it has rotted from electrolisis damage and is waiting to go out on me...I'm penniless and was asking for any advice, or information on another rudder...thanks

If its a 1968 it would be a Bristol 29 - the 29.9 came much later (1977) and is a very different design. I came very close to buying a 1967 (until if FAILED a survey - deck was too soft for my liking) and went a different direction. There are two really good sites for these "Plastic Classic" Bristol's - The Bristol owners site - http://www.bristolowners.org/
and  the Classic Plastic site (it used to be a mainstay of Person Triton's) - http://www.plasticclassicforum.com/.

I've found both of these sites very informative for the do it yourselfer....
