When is it time for a new 12 1/2 mast?
« on: August 04, 2011, 11:28:34 PM »
Is it when there is a horizontal crack across the front at the deck?  When there is a horizontal crack across the back at the deck?  Or, as in my case, both?

Ooooh .... Probably can be repaired by a good boatwright.  But I think it needs attention.

Amy Ballentine is more than willing to "whip me up a new one".  Given that the mast is now 30 years old, that may be the way to go.  I'll have to strip the hardware from the old one, and figure out how to transfer our home-made wind-indicator mount that is welded to the top of the mast cone.

The new mast arrived Friday, delivered personally by Tyler Fields from Ballantine Boat Shop.  Along with delivering the mast, Tyler stayed over-night at our place, and then helped with the re-rigging the next day.

We even squeezed in side-trips to the Lake Champlain Yacht Club and the Malletts Bay Boat Club for promoting 12's and Stewart Knockabouts.

Doughdish, LLC is in very good hands it seems!

Congrats, Jon.

You can't go wrong with Ballentine's.
