H 18 Yacht Club Launch ?
« on: January 06, 2012, 02:20:31 AM »
Hi, I am looking for info on the whereabouts of the molds that Squadron Yachts used for the H 18 Yacht Club Launch!  I have one that got too close to a burning building!

Herreshoff Designs may give you better info (might want to call them) but as far as I know there was just one H18 mold - and was used for the America, Eagle, Launch, scout and Pilot - with different deck/liner molds to create the different versions. The last I heard the molds are down in Florida at Com-Pac Yachts - who used this mold to create their 20' "Horizon Cat" (highly modified). I had heard the original mold is in very bad shape and could not be used again (at least one "one off" HA was built from this mold in the 1990's down there but never as production). I have also heard that several folks have offered to buy it and have been told no - but that is hearsay so take with a grain of salt...

Adam, Thanks you don't know of any of the older H 18 hulls lying around for sale?
How do I insert a picture the link seams not to work!

Check with Forum Member Cardinal Joe.  He seems to be our resident expert on the 18' launch, with tons of pictures and restoration information.  Was your boat part of the fire in Woods Hole?

She was at Hawthorne cove in Salem Mass, the starboard side as well as the transom were burned badly.  My guys say with out a mold it will be very time consuming to rebuild.  She is a fine boat and would fit my needs well.

Was the Diesel motor include in the purchase of the Herreshoff Bay Fisherman - Pilot Series .....

What does the VIN # on the title state......

You don't need a mold of this hull to repair your pilot ..... What you do need is a good fiberglass guy..... ;)

I have a good guy, ( Jesse Lowell )   Shoot me a number through e mail for the repair if you are interested.  We figured we could build a new boat wood or fiberglass using the running gear for less then repairing the existing hull. Hence the search for a mold or hull!

Wow is "Jesse Lowell" related to the famous Lowell's - boat building family of Maine ?

A few years ago , i would have love to take on a project like your Pilot , but I'm semi retired from the marina business now that Cardinal is gone and really don't need the "Therapy" anymore...... Life is Good  :)

I have owned & sold many boats in my life time, but only a few downeaster hulls ....... the Herreshoff Pilot Series reminds me of a little Maine lobster boat....... :)

PS - The swim platfrom on your Pilot is a add on to the Pilot hull .... and its going to be a bitch to remove if its 5200 exoy.

This is what a Herreshoff Bay Fisherman Pilot Launch should look like...

I believe that the long wooden handle shifter was standard on the Herreshoff Bay Fisherman Pilot Series , because of the high bow dodger...... the foto above is custom and may have been done at the factory during its construction ?
