Herreshoff outboard launch
« on: April 29, 2015, 05:59:31 PM »
I've seen two of these over the past decade, both times on Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard, but I don't know who built them and when, or where one might be available. It's the Herreshoff America/Eagle/Scout/Harbor Pilot hull with an open cockpit and motor well as seen on this FB page: https://www.facebook.com/VineyardColors/photos/a.481181391945317.110538.457044334359023/890044651058987/?type=1&theater.

It's not clear to me how to post photos, so if anyone can transfer the one on the FB page to here, it may help.

It's the "Fisherman" - There were two models - One a center console and one a side console. As stated just another configuration of the "America" hull. The advertising I have shows it available from N&W - so probably available early on. Not sure how many built or which of the three main builders actually built them. Would think fairly rare. Joe C has put up some pics before....

Do you have a photo or description from the N&W advert? My understanding is that the open Fisherman and Harbor Launches were inboards. The one in the photo has an outboard in a well. Perhaps it was an altered hull.

N&W did "custom" configs - so an outboard version (inboard well) would have been an easy add as that is how the sailing models came. I believe Joe posted a pic of a Pilot with an outboard in a well one time. As far as I know there were no outboard models made as "production" (other than the Sailing versions) - but someone could correct me.

I was having lunch at the Edgartown Yacht Club in Martha's Vineyard... when out of the corner of my eye i spoted a Herreshoff 18 Hull.... going by with a fisherman standing an the stern steering the boat with a outboard motor as a rudder .... that day i when looking for the Herreshoff 18 and found it working as a Scallop boat on the south side of Chappaquiddick ....

The next day i forgot my camera , and came upon the Herreshoff 18 - it turn out to be Herreshoff Scout 18 !
