Anyone familiar with Phinney Boats built 1900-1920?
« on: March 01, 2020, 08:31:01 PM »
Greetings.
We are in search of the identification of a 31" 1913 Catboat. Pictures available at catboat1913.com. After attending the Catboat Association meetings in Groton CT late January, the strongest lead is this may be a Phinney boat.

We are trying to find any factual and/ or even anecdotal sources of information. The boatyard is no longer owned by wooden boat builders.

Thanks in advance for any leads.

Bill Phinney was a Catboat racer and boat builder down on Cape Cod - Monument beach. He didn't just build cats. Later moved to Falmouth - MacDougalls is his old yard. There is a whole chapter on him in Graysons "Catboats".....

Adam,
Thanks for your reply. I have seen the Chapter on Phinney in Graysons book. After reading it I contacted MacDougalls yard to see if there were any records or if anyone would know of his earlier Cats. No leads. I am going to be in Plymouth MA and Vineyard Haven in the next two weeks. I plan to drive to Monument Beach to se if there is some records in the local library or town hall. I realize this is a long shot. Professor Google has been no help.

I also plan to visit the archives in Mystic to see if I can get any leads.
Always in search.
