1927 44' Herreshoff Yact for sale
« on: July 24, 2008, 05:42:47 PM »
It seems out of place as I live in the midwest but I have come across this boat for sale at auction. I would be willing to act as a buyers agent for anyone that is interested. It is listed as having a Certificate of Documentation from the US Coast Guard, and was salied about 4 years ago on a local lake. There is also a 1965 40' semi boat trailer. Please email if your are interested. Thank you

Well if I'm using the database correctly between 1926 and 1928 the only boats it could be are a NY30 or a FI31 - since all but one of the NY30's are known (I don't think any are in the mid west), and several of the FI are missing in this time period, I'd guess a FI31. Could be one of the Unknowns....

Anyway Hometown could supply a hull #?

Adam:  You are using the DB correctly.  Assuming the 1927 44' Herreshoff assignation is correct, it must be either hull 1054 - originally CYRILLA or hull 1060 - originally MAMEENA.  I asked Hometown for the hull number and any additional info via email.  She responded that she wasn't sure, but is going to do some more leg work and get back.  The name MAMEENA rang a bell.  Looks like maybe we found another one.

Well I found I didnt really use it correctly - I picked up 1927 in the other owners - thus the NY30's.... When I did it over I sill had the same answer though....one of the FI31's....What fun  :)

Thank you for all the information. I called the seller this afternoon to inquire further and make arrangements to inspect the boat. He was not able to tell me the Hull number but did reveal that they had a lot of documentation to go along with the boat. He told me that the boat originally belonged to the Duponts. In my research, I learned that the boat named Mameena was owned by Pierre Dupont. I will keep you posted. Please let me know if there are any potential buyers out there. Thanks again.

It turns out that this boat is indeed a Fisher's Island 31 ... ALDEBARON, hull #1060.  She sold at auction on Saturday to an unknown bidder for $9500.   She needs some work ..

Actually she looks pretty good.  She's no "Torch" yet, but consider that he only paid $9500!  Most 12's go for twice that in that kind of condition!   :o
