Indeed.  The Registry has JUNO purchased by a Russell Grimmell.  I looked at the original record, and I could easily have mis-typed it from Grinnell.

Bruce Grinnell has a wooden 15 at the Watch Hill Yacht Club.  I just shot him off a note inquiring whether there is a connection here.

Nice catch!

Grinnell was a repeat customer of Herreshoff. I think they had one of the 40's. I used to work with Peter Grinnell, who is related. His brother worked at HMM for a few years not long ago.

They were "Grinnell Fire Protection", a name that still exists, now owned by Tyco.

I corresponded with Bruce.  He mentioned that the Grinnell's settled in the Newport - New Bedford area and, among other things, were active in the whaling trade.  He didn't know anything specific about Russell or JUNO, however.

The Grinnells were among the leading citizens of New Bedford, very important yachtsmen --- and important Herreshoff customers. Herreshoff yachts ordered by the Grinnells included:

#213p Quickstep (Steam yacht) for Grinnell, Russell & Frederick
#608s Rugosa (Sloop) for Grinnell, Russell
#616s Bambino (Sloop) for Grinnell, Lawrence (now owned by the Herreshoff Museum)
#703s Flying Cloud (Cruising Sloop) for Grinnell, F. B. & L.
#945s Juno (12.5 Twelve-and-a-half) for Grinnell, Russell
#983s Rugosa II (40 NY Forty Yawl) for Grinnell, Russell (now owned by Halsey Herreshoff)
#1393s [12 1/2 for Lawrence Grinnell] (12.5 Twelve-and-a-half) for Grinnell, Lawrence

L. Howland's history of the New Beford Yacht Club contains a lot of material about the Grinnells --- too much to quote here. But definitely worth (and fun!) reading.

Juno was sailed by Russ Grinnell, Jr., son of Russell Grinnell, nephew of Lawrence Grinnell, and great-son of Frederick Grinnell.
