If your interested in "the great loop" read the classic "A Year in a Yawl". This is the true story of the first time anyone did it - late 1890's. Whats facinating is it was four young boys who built a Yawl by themselves - and take off - Tom Sawyer-esk. The first edition is 1904 I believe, but re-prints can be found cheap.

Of course the best, IMO, written "Catboat Cruising" story is Plummers, "The Boy, Me, and the Cat". The CBA just put it back in print a few years back....

I to have an 18' Harbor Pilot. I picked her up two years ago. It has a new 20HP yanmar 2 cylinder. The hull was brush painted blue. I removed the blue and she is waiting to get shot. I run her two summer ago; but put on the hard for the retro; just got sidetracked with other projects.

My hull number is TSPHP0090374. So I guess that means hull #9.

Yes - yours is Hull # 9 !   Location of home Port ?  History of this Pilot ?  i.e. Owner's ?

I was in the model room this weekend and looked up the 'America' model.  It was a new model in 1970, the text on the back reads:

Herreshoff America July 19, 1970
18 ft Cat Boat
for Nowak & Williams Model by A. S. deW H.
Scale 3/4" = 1'

Very nice model.

That is One Sweet Looking Hull !

Someone on CBA stated - there are 150 Herreshoff America ?

I wonder if the Hull # on these Herreshoff Hulls are the # of hulls produced for all six models or are they individual hull #'s for each model ?

Most Pilot owners have added a Window > But I'm adding a Classic Looking Bronze Port Hole to the outer cabin bulk head wall ,so I can see sitting down .

 Bow Thruster Unit !

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I purchase a top of the line Volvo Bow Thruster Unit - 5 hp , but it is just to big for the Herreshoff Harbor pilot ! The hull tube was 6in in dia. just to big of a hole , the Bow Thruster Unit fit just fine ! I'm going to order a Venus Bow Thruster Unit with : #Props: 1

Boat Length: 18 - 28 ft.

Drive: 12 V

Max. Run: 4 min.

Min. Tunnel Length: 8.5"

Motor: 1.5kW (2HP)

Thrust: 55 lbs.

Tunnel Dia.: 4-11⁄32" ID

Type: BOW2512 (Shown)

When the snow clears a little I will run over to the boat and snap a shot of my rudder assembly. I don't remember a bushing. I think the rudder pintel just slips in the hole.
