" M " = Character nine is the spacer letter (M) – before the year.

The HIN is TSPHP089M771. Seeswell are you sure that the 1 is not a I ?

The HIN is TSPHP089M771. The title lists it as a 1977 and the builders plate lists Squadron Yachts as the builder.
MIC          Company Address                  City  State
TSP
TPI COMPOSITES, INC   P.O. BOX 367   WARREN   RI
who built the hull for " Squadron Yachts " ......
TPI Composites Marine Division (formerly Tillotson-Pearson Inc)Marine Products , Warren, Rhode Island, United States
Since 1968 TPI has delivered cutting edge composite technology that has been pivotal in the development of many commercially successful products.

In the late 80’s, TPI identified a manufacturing process that consistently produces a superior quality, highly structural, large composite part while eliminating the harmful VOC emissions. This process is know as SCRIMP® (Seemann Composites Resin Infusion Molding Process). TPI purchased the rights and has been successfully SCRIMPing parts for more than 10 years.

Today TPI is using SCRIMP® technology in a variety of ways to produce products that meet our clients’ exacting design requirements. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Wind Blades, Poma-Otis People Movers and components for U.S. Military vehicles are just a few examples of TPI SCRIMP® technology in use.

In 2004, TPI Composites announced a new ownership team, Landmark Growth Capital Partners and TPI senior management. This exciting change has allowed TPI to capitalize on growth in the wind energy, transportation and military sectors.

Joe,

The title lists it as a 1977 but I agree with you that it should be a 1971.  Squadron Yachts does not seem to have built any boats prior to 1977 and HIN were not required in 1971 so my quess is that what looks like a 1 is actually a poorly formed 7? :-\

My Pliot is a Squadron Yachts boat - TSPHP 06308 74 = Hull # 63 , 08 = August , 74 = Year !   My Title states Squ  and year 1975 !

FYI, I have a Harbor Pilot TSPHP086M78A that I would like to sell.  She has been on the hard for the past five years and needs attention to wood work and gel coat but was repowered by Oldport Marine with a Yanmar 3GM about eight or ten years ago with 500hrs on the meter.  Have mast, steadying sail etc.   Also has a trailer (that needs brakes).   I am the third owner as far as I can tell.  I believe she was originally owned by the Newport RI harbormaster.   She ran well when I took her out and winterized the engine.   Will undoubtedly need the fuel tank flushed (old fuel) and new batteries too.  This is a project boat primarily due to the long layup and cosmetics.  She is otherwise sound.

Lovely boat, I just decided to go back to sail and didn't have time to manage two boats.   Currently on Prudence Island, RI.  Contact me if you are interested.  Have some photos but don't know how to post them here.

Does the pilot have the Rare Original Bronze Anchor Light at the top of the mast ?  also the steadying Sail + Boom are very hard to find , most Pilot don't have them , either lost in storing ,etc, etc .
