Greetings-------- in response to the trailer specifications for your HERRESHOFF Harbor Pilot I recently purchased a Sea Lion 18 foot 3100 pounds single axle bunked trailer. I transported a Herreshoff America from Smith Mountain Lake Virginia to Oneco Connecticut without any problems. After doing extensive research I decided upon purchasing a sea lion trailer it costs me approximately $1850 with a spare tire and tongue jack as added accessories. I have found the trailer to be of excellent quality with no defects and you will be able to purchase a similar vehicle by using their website. My HA 18 sits on a roller trailer with four keel rollers. You need to have the keel supported and either fitted bunks, which will provide more support, or rollers, which are easier to fit, to support the hull as it is thin and won't support a lot of weight...My cat stays in my yard on the trailer, but if you are going to haul any distance, I would get a trailer with bunks that is fit to the hull. Dual axles will tow better than single, but it would be more difficult to move around manually. If distance is in your trailering plans, go with the dual axle if possible. Good luck. Don

I put Little Toot in the water last week for the first time in two years. Figured it was better to use her then let her sit until I am ready for the complete restoration. So far in just a week I have put 10 hours on her. The wife, who hates most of my boats, loves Little Toot. Last night she stopped at Boston Market and picked up dinner. We took Toot over to Silver Bay and dropped the hook. We had the place to ourselves.
The crossing to Silver Bay was interesting. The wind was blowing about 20kts out of the ENE. Seas where breaking, white caps, at about 2-3 feet. The boat handled the sea condition very well. Following sea was a piece of cake. Straight beam was ok, as we did take spray into the cockpit. The boat had no tendency to roll or broach. The trip back home into a headsea was a wet one. We took spray over the pilot house. Turned to a quartering headsea and only took spray into the cockpit.
Not one other boat out on the trip home. We had the whole north end of the Barnegate Bay to ourselves except for the seagulls and ospreys.

Really cool little boat that can handle some big stuff. ;D

Hi Joe,

HIN  TSPHP0060374 (Hull #6) Built 1974 by TPI
Added 600# of lead ballast this spring.  It made all the difference in the world lessening the roll considerably.  Had the prop re-pitched from 10 to 12 which gives us 6kts at 3000 RPM.  Ran through 12 gallons of diesel fuel which equates to roughly 50 hours steaming at 5kts.

There were two Herreshoff Harbor Pilots , in the water and up the
river in Annapolis - a Red & Green hull that i have been looking at
for over 7 years ,when visiting my brother in Eastport .  ( both
Pilot's are owned by older gentlemen in the area).

Cardinal Joe > looked for them a few weeks ago during the 2011
Annapolis Power Boat Show , but could Not find either one of them
,where i told him they would be docked ....... Has anyone seen these
Herreshoff Harbor Pilots ?

Well , the owner of the red hull Herreshoff Harbor Pilot in Annapolis , MD - called me yesterday !  One of the marina's in Annapolis ,that i stopped into to ask if anyone knew of or has seen the two Pilots , told the owner of the Red hull Pilot and gave him my cell # ......

The Red Hull is a Nowak & Williams (1974) and Hull #10 and has a newer diesel motor 15 hp ( forget the brand )......

The Green Hull is down from the red hull on a mooring ball an is owned by a local contractor , its not used much an is starting to show its lack of maintaince...... It does Not have a Cat Rudder possibly a 1975 or newer SQUADRON YACHTS,INC ........

He also mention a sighting of a Herreshoff Harbor Pilot years ago in Marble Head in MA.  Also , the Westerbeke Factory Rep. that i met at the AC Boat Show a few years back , stated he just worked on a Herreshoff Harbor Pilot in Marble Head , MA ...... Does anyone know of a Pilot in Ma. ?

YUP ...... that's Sky King !    Herreshoff - *  1985  18'  $12,000  - that's a steal at $12,000.00 - It has a BMW 47 hp motor .....

The other Pilot on yacht world is mine ......

I talked a couple months ago to the owner of a Harbor Pilot that is in Rhode Island but his price exceeded my budget.  The owner said he would think about selling it again in the spring.

I do not believe that The Marblehead Yacht Club has ever owned a Herreshoff launch.
Perhaps the Corinthian YC of Marblehead, or the Eastern YC of Marblehead may have.

Here's a couple shots of the Harbor Pilot I just purchased from a boatyard in Guilford, CT.  It's a running boat but needs some TLC.  If the Hour Meter is accurate, the motor has less than 2000 hours on it.  But I want to go through the cooling and fuel systems to make sure all is well and will look at the electrics as well.  As far as the rest of the boat is concerned, I'm just going to strip and repaint the bottom and polish up the red gel coat.  Hopefully I'l be able to do all this before the next boating season which start a bit early here in South Carolina.
