Joe,

It worked well on my Herreshoff Yacht Club Launch with a Yanmar 3GM30.

I had a 4HP Mercury 4 stroke on mine that did the job.

seesell ... i see from the foto above that the motor bracket will clear the option swim platform.

PS> I'm not disagreeing with you about your 4 hp motor, its just a theory of mine about 6 hp vs 4 hp , especially going thru NJ narrow bridges with incoming tide running at 5 to 6 knots do to the Venturi flow effect !  ;D

Joe,

I went through the Stone Bridge channel at the Tiverton Basin with mine against a 4 knot tide without any issues other than it took a bit longer to do it. If my engine was very unreliable and I planned on useing the outboard frequently then 6HP or even an 8HP 2 stroke would be my choice. For occasional use a 4HP with a high thrust prop  does the job for me.

Agreed......  I have had both 2 stroke & 4 stroke motors, my 4 hp/ 2 stroke had about the same torque has my 6 hp/ 4 stroke going through bridges ..... But ,for long trips and better fuel comsumption, I'll take the 4 stroke over the 2 stroke ...... :)

Arey's Pond built a lovely wood 20' launch based on a catboat hull some years ago. http://www.areyspondboatyard.com/apbylaunch.html

It's elegant, as you can see.  The owner used it for a few years and then put it on the market. The last listing I saw for it they were asking at or around $20k and it sold, I imagine, for somewhat less than that.  It took more than a season on the market to sell.  Even the finest pedigreed, built and maintained boats can go for 40% of their asking prices in this market, if they sell at all. I've seen it.

Hereshoff Harbor Pilot 18 article
Harry Jones...... Attached is an article written for the Chesapeake Bay Magazine about my boat ...
Reply |Harry Jones hwjones5373@verizon.net ......Attached is an article written for the Chesapeake Bay Magazine about my boat which may be of interest.  The author did some research on the boat make and included it along with the personalization.  You will see a picture of the boat (with my wife and me in it) as well as a couple of interior shots.  The article ran in the August 2008 issue.
Thanks for “herding” the Harbor Pilot owners and cataloging the data.  I hope this article adds to your endeavor.
