If the console is on the port side its a YC launch. If its in the middle its a bay fisherman.

If the console is on the port side its a YC launch. If its in the middle its a bay fisherman.

Both Models are Launch's and both have the helm console on the port side , unless Customize with a Center Console.

Don't believe this is correct - what makes you think this: "Bay Fisherman = Console on Port Side and Yacht Club Launch = Center Console..........."

YC Launches in general always have a console on the port side as the proper way to approach most yachts is to Starboard. Thus you can grab the moored boat. "Fishing" boats are mostly center consoles. I don't believe the Pilot series deviated from this.

Adam - I believe the " Bay Fisherman " and "  Yacht Club " are both " Launches " !  In doing reseach today on the models and the position of the helm console , I made a discovery !  In looking at the Herreshoff Brochure of the 6 cat hull models , I noticed that the " Yacht Club Launch " has a (wooden) Shift Handle in it ,which means that the helm console would have been on the port side and I believe that the " Bay Fisherman model " also had the same helm console configuration and that both models had a boarding step ladder.  According to the Bay Fisherman Brochure had a standard 15 hp motor ( Gas or Diesel ) and the  Yacht Club had a standard Westerbeke Diesel 30 hp engine and more Safety features along with being US Coast Guard Certified for marinas/club to use for hire...... As far as the Center Console model, I believe they were Custom order boats with boarding ladders (optional) , which makes your theory " Correct " .....  I will post up pictures of both Models with descpritions !

I stand corrected , I now believe this is a " Yacht Club Model " and NOT a " Bay Fisherman Model has I first stated in earlier posts ......

Joe – you said “Yacht Club Launch” has a (wooden) Shift Handle in it” – Actually that is the steering – Most small Launches have no “wheel” but steer using this gunnel “Tiller”. I’m sure there is a name for this “stick” – as well as a reason for this type of steering vs. a wheel – but don’t know (though I have my theorys). Maybe one of the members would enlighten us… As for the Fisherman coming with a side console – you might be correct - and the only difference is the wheel steering and the transome sail/mast. I just assumed the Fisherman are CC's – which I suppose one should not do. Maybe Adam L. knows….As you noted the catalog states custom configurations available – I wonder what – if any – they did?

Yes - I hope Adam L or a owner of a Bay fisherman or Yacht Club Launch could clear this matter up for us ?   I'm not sure by looking at a BF model vs YC model if I could tell the Model ? Yes the BF model came with a " Dodger Cover " , but that could have been an Option on the YC model too.

Now the above foto of the so called Bay Fisherman also has a added (teak) top side rail , was this standard on the BF model ?  I have not seen a actual foto of the transom day sail/mast unit on a BF model ,as show in the orginal Herreshoff Brochure ....
