Yes, the Herreshoff America, Eagle, Scout and Pilot all use the same hulls!  The non-sailing hulls do not have centerboards of course.

Pilot Model - 1974

Was the Westerbeke diesel engine a 25 hp ?   If so is 8 to 9 knots average speed @ 1800 rpms ?

Answer to above question is YES !  Standard is 15 hp and upgrade is 25 hp !

Question ? - The rule-of-thumb which states that, around hull speed, an increase of one knot requires twice the horsepower suggests that decreasing speed from seven to six knots would give a fuel use of about 1/2 gph. ( Average 1 gph )

Well they are very popular in the "America" version as a Cape Cod Cat. The Pilot - as far as I know - was quite rare so a "following" may be a stretch. Like most classic hulls there are places - like New England in general where these types of boats would probably sell better then others. If it were me - yeah I'd love a neat classic like this - put a small 12-16hp diesel in her, maybe some trap strakes, a pot haul, and a nice hemp push on the bow and it would be a head turner.

About 10 years ago I re-did one of the old 17'  "Finest Kind" CC Novi hulls (Later the Stagepoint 17, and recently the Seaway Stagepoint 17). I got more comments from passer by's then any other boat I've ever owned. I fished her hard for 5 years and sold her.

I'm looking for a Seaway 24 Express model to purchase !  And i went to Nova Scotia last year and took many Pic's of Novi Hull's , I hope to Restore one in the near furture . They remind me of the Herreshoff 18 Hull in some ways , they both belly out and Bow & Stern up a little .

Joe:
1. CBA = Catboat Association (http://www.catboats.org/).
2. Check out their "Cats for sale" section for lots of Herreshoff America versions.
3. The Seaway 24 is nice hull. I just sold (last year) an Albemarle 24 I re-did - not a novi but a nice hull none the less.

My Pilot - My Vin# on the boat is TSPHP 06308 74 - that would make a 1974 production / 1975 model year - my Title states 1975 as the year of the vessel ?  If I'm reading the Vin # corret - than the boat is Hull # 08    and the 06 = June  the 3 is a fuller # and the 74 is the year ! ?????????

They were not Herreshoff built - Halsey Herreshoff designed them for the builder(s) in the 1970's. Several builders made them actually but the two main builders were Squadron, and N&W. Horizon I believe was the last (and still owns the molds I think?). If I remember correctly Horizon changed it quite a bit for their "Horizon Cat".

To complicate things, it is somewhat unsubstantiated that Halsey used one of his Grandfathers racing catboat models for the design (probable early cat 1870’s-1890’s). How much he changed the original hull design is unknown. I am highly curious though as too which hull # it was...One of the things to ask next time I’m at the museum.

CORRECTION - TSPHP 06308 74 = Hull # 63 , 08 = August , 74 = Year !
