Hardware/ spinnaker rigging

I'm restoring an H 12 - 1/2 and have got to the stage of needing hardware for the rig.  I'm in touch with both Bristol Bronze and Jim Reineck but was hoping to find original hardware.  Are there any consignment shops or the like where it would be worth looking?

Also, does anyone have any information regarding how spinnakers were rigged on these boats?

Funny you mention this - several months ago on E-Bay a guy was selling a spinnaker pole from a 12 1/2. It was I believe, from the 1950's or late 40's - Cape Cod Shipbuilding vintage - too bad. There is a consignment shop for used sailing gear in RI, forget the name, but I've called on them a few times - do a net search. As for the set up I attached a pic of Minx (ex target) - notice the angled block on the gunnel on the rear quarter - one on each side - and I believe the mast had a single non-ajustable ring for the pole, and two cleats on the inside of the combing. Very simple standard set-up. For an exact layout I'd either call the museum or Cape Cod Shipbuilding.

The guy who has(had) the H12 spinnaker pole also sold via eBay the original tiller from Watch Hill 15 MISS Q a few months back.  I don't know, but he may still have the spinnaker pole.  PM me (or email), and I can give you his contact information.  There will be a price, though

Another question:  were jib and main booms ever rectangular in section?  Mine are, and Bill at the Herreshoff Museum told me he thought the main boom was original, but on the drawings I have from around 1938 they are circular in section.

One more - is it correct to use wooden hounds on a gaff boat?  I know Reineck advises against it especially for trailered boats.

I have only seen round spars on a 12.  It may be that your boat, being an "Improved Model", could have originally had rectangular spars.  12-1/2 plans are difficult to come by due to the Cape Cod rights issue, especially so for the late and rare "improved" versions, so that might be a tough path to chase.  I'll scour my image library and see what I can come up with, but hopefully someone else on the forum will know more.

What is the practice regarding battens in 12 - 1/2 mains and jibs?

Mike:  I have never seen battens being used on a 12.  I know my own did not have them, and the H-Class Association forbids them.  In the LINKS section of the Registry, you will find a link to the H-Class Association website, where their rules are published.

Did you ever connect eith the guy who had that spinnaker pole?
