S-Class locations/owners update
« on: December 23, 2009, 06:10:01 PM »
Hi Gents,

I just looked through the boat locations database for the S-boats and had some updates for you:

TERN: Location = Larchmont, NY. She was bought this year from George Hanson. I'll send the new owner name asap
HORNPIPE: Location = Shelter Island (future location?). She was bought by Jim Stark from Jim Park in 2003 and is undergoing restoration in MA.
Iroquois: Her actual location is Larchmont, NY, not Scarsdale
Kandahar II: Her her actual location is Larchmont, NY, not Westchester
Dilemma: Joel Comer sold it to Alex Von Bidder in 1999 and I bought it from Alex in 2005

Also, there is a boat named Trapper that is in Lake George, NY owned by Harold Kirkpatrick. He bought it in about 1977. I can find out the hull number and other history if you need it.

Any news on another S-Class history book? If so, I think it would be a good idea if I have an opportunity to edit the Western Long Island Sound section. I believe George Hanson contributed to the last edition and I'd be happy to help out.

Merry Christmas,

Sean

Hi Sean - this is great. The more work for Steve the better - idle hands and such ... ;D

As for the Book - Steve mentioned it a month back or so - still in progress I suppose.

Can you get the Hull # for Trapper? I don't see her listed.....

Sean:  Thanks for the updates.  I'll update the database as soon as I get the chance.

Did you get my message re: VOLUNTEER?

I understand that the new S-Boat book is slated for publication ove the summer.  Unfortunately, the authors are maintaining radio silence.  A resource very knowldegable about the Bar Harbor fleet has also offered some editorial assistance, but to my knowledge has not been contacted.

Sean"  I made the updates ... if anything is amiss, please let me know.  I would be most interested in the information about the new owner of TERN, and most especially whatever you can gather about TRAPPER, which would be a new one for the records.

Thanks, and have a great holiday.

Question - S # 912 has been for sale for some time. Does anyone know her condition? anything about the boat?

http://www.yachtworld.com/core/listing/boatFullDetails.jsp?boat_id=1772849&ybw=&units=Feet&access=Public&listing_id=1829&url=

Also, In one of the pics there is another S in the background - The only other S recently in Cranston was #964 (2007). Would this be her?

Lastly, the ad states that she comes with a HMCo. bronze outboard motor mount (I see in the pics the bracket for it, but not the mount) - was this an option for S's, 15's,12's, etc. ?

I don't know for absolute certainty, but I don't believe that HMCo ever sold a motor mount.  Both Spartan and Bristol Bronze make them today.  I had one from Spartan on my Buzzards Bay 15 that worked out quite nicely.  The deck-mount bracket looked very similar to the one on WISTFUL ... my guess is this is the mount he has.  Spartan has been making these for awhile .... just bring money.

Hey Gents,

I do not know the name of the new owner of Tern yet, but will let you know asap.

Trapper is owned by Harold Kirkpatrick and she is kept in Lake George, NY. He has had her since 1978, her sail #6, Hull number 961, 962 or 965 according to the History and Registry of the S Boat book. Previous owner was Elux Putting.

Take care,

Sean

Thanks Sean.  If I have it right, TRAPPER is a Lawley S ?

Also, I found out that the new caretaker for Tern is a Mr. Tarrence Pare. She is being restored in Newport and will be moored at Horseshoe Harbor YC in Larchmont, NY and race with the Western Long Island Sound fleet (http://www.herreshoff-s-wlis.org).
