DARTMOUTH — Norman E. Fortier, age 91, the well known marine photographer and artist, passed away peacefully 1/30/10.
Soon after serving as a US Navy aerial photographer during WWII, Mr. Fortier opened a photography studio in Padanaram, MA. There he had a successful career until his retirement in 2008. Norman's studio soon became a destination stopover for visiting yachtsmen seeking to have him photograph their boats, share his knowledge of local waters and to view his watercolors. Collections of his photographs have been published in two books as well as numerous periodicals.
He is survived by his wife, Violette; daughters, Maureen and Nancy; son, Peter; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Bedford Whaling Museum, 18 Johnny Cake Hill, New Bedford, MA 02740.
Private arrangements are in the care of Waring-Sullivan Homes of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth.
