New York 30 - Amorita
« on: July 06, 2008, 02:28:29 PM »
As most know, the New York 30 AMORITA was severely damaged in a collision during a race in Newport last year.  The owner had every intention of repairing her, but the last update was that the insurance wars were in full swing.  Does anyone know the latest status ?

This is a very interesting Blog discussing the issue from both the protest side and the legal side. Seems a law suit underway....

Seems both parties settled out of court. I hope this means that the restoration will start....

Thanks for that, Adam.  I think Jed is now an MPG customer, and they are still pretty much tied up with Spartan.  I hope it doesn't take long to get Amorita back on the water.

I heard from an informed source today that Jed has reached an agreement with MPG to do the work on Amorita as soon as they finish with Spartan, which is maybe 18 months.

I just heard from Bill Doyle, business partner of Jed Pearsall.  Seems that the restoration of AMORITA is underway.  She should be sailing again in 2010.

Does that mean Spartain is done - or nearly finished?

I don't think it is done, but they are making progress.  In the case of both, a lot of the work is being subbed out to other firms, and MPG is acting more or less as the GC.  I know the mast for Spartan was built by Stonington Boat Works.  The new cabin house for Amorita is now finished, and it was done by French & Webb.
