Interesting scrap-book
« on: May 14, 2013, 07:07:32 PM »
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bristol-RI-Nat-Herreshoff-clara-de-Wolf-herreshoff-personal-family-items-/281107323416?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item41734d5a18

Someone is parting out some of Clara Herreshoff's personal items - including letters from the "castle", original photo of capt Nat, cards and stuff....

Other than the picture that looks like Captain Nat in a Florida home, do any of the photos look like family members?  Since Mrs. Herreshoff died in 1905, and most of the photo's look a bit newer than that, and LFH didn't buy the Castle at age 15, I am a bit skeptical.

Adam, does it pass muster with you, minimum $699 bid?

Well it certainly isn't all Clara's - many newer items - much is items from the 40's and 50's - I see stuff from Sidney and Clarence  as well - my guess it was stuff in a box... price is silly of course.

The Clara deWolf Herreshoff mentioned on many of these papers is the daughter of N. G. Herreshoff, Jr. and grand-daughter of the yacht designer N. G. Herreshoff, Sr. She lived from April 13, 1920 to March 23, 1982. This is not the Clara deWolf Herreshoff that N. G. Herreshoff, Sr. was married to.

The ephemera on offer is most likely from the collection of N. G. Herreshoff, Sr.'s son Clarence Herreshoff who lived from February 22, 1895 until December 17, 1983.

Thanks HH - Over the past few years a number of Clarence Herreshoff items have shown up on E-bay - lots of what look like to me hand drawn cards and "comics" - usually with political overtones of the day (1950's maybe)...
