I brought mine to the yacht club this weekend in hopes that I'd have time to polish some of the patina off and detect additional markings, but never got around to it.  Weather was too nice, I was on the water most of the weekend.  I did talk to the previous owner about it, all he knows is that it's manganese bronze and that he believes it was new in the late 80s or maybe 1990, so you're right, not an original Hmco anchor.  He bought it off another sailor who let it go for the ridiculous price of $50.  Even though it's not vintage, I almost feel like I shouldn't sell it at this point.  Maybe I'll offer it to my club as a decoration or something.  Thanks for the input!

I believe that it is an ABI anchor. They made two sizes in manganese bronze if I remember for a short time in the 70s or 80s and that fits with the period you mention. One of those sizes was 55 lb, which would be stamped on the anchor near the center of the shank with the ABI logo.

A little more research turned up the following:

Bronze Star also offered these. The sizes were 35, 55 & 75 lb. They are listed in a catalog I have from 1991/1992. They are in the ABI catalog from 1992 in galvanized steel. You can identify it positively with these dimensions. Shank length 39", Stock length 37.5", fluke length, 26. This is for the 55 lb anchor. The ones offered by Star Bronze may not have the marking as indicated above. although it appears from other illustrations in the catalog that the ABI logo was retained on other products they offered.

Good luck!
