Trying to track down a Herreshoff

Have a 9 foot +/- Herreshoff sailing dinghy.  Apparently it was owned by Lloyd Wells (http://chestnuthilllocal.com/blog/2013/06/05/lloyd-p-wells-community-leader-dies/)  and was the dinghy he had on his much larger Herreshoff.   After his death his son gave the dinghy to my wife’s father.  I am unable to find any markings or plaques on the dinghy.

I am trying to track down either the name or whereabouts of the larger vessel and or some sort of appraisal for the dinghy.  Unfortunately I do not know if he owned a schooner, ketch, yawl or sloop or even how large – probably over 50 feet we are guessing.

This will be a tough one without more information.  I assume you have already asked Wells son?

Depending on how interested you are in finding the answer, you might want to inquire of the Corinthian Yacht Club of Philadelphia if they have members who might have known Mr. Wells.  These members would be in the 70's and 80's.  Might also check the Philadelphia Maritime Museum.

My grandfather is long passed, but  he would have likely known Mr. Wells as a resident of Chestnut Hill and a yachtsman. 

You might also try contacting the deceased's relatives, the son in Maine, would likely know the name of the vessel if not the type of dinghy.  A picture would certainly help.  So would a description, pram, sailing, rowing only, wood type and other materials (bronze fittings, steel, etc.).

If this is simply a valuation issue, have it appraised.
