Depending on how interested you are in finding the answer, you might want to inquire of the Corinthian Yacht Club of Philadelphia if they have members who might have known Mr. Wells. These members would be in the 70's and 80's. Might also check the Philadelphia Maritime Museum.
My grandfather is long passed, but he would have likely known Mr. Wells as a resident of Chestnut Hill and a yachtsman.
You might also try contacting the deceased's relatives, the son in Maine, would likely know the name of the vessel if not the type of dinghy. A picture would certainly help. So would a description, pram, sailing, rowing only, wood type and other materials (bronze fittings, steel, etc.).
If this is simply a valuation issue, have it appraised.
