Identifying a 12 1/2
« on: November 13, 2014, 10:32:15 PM »
All -
New to forum, first post.  Been on as a lurker a number of times...  I own a Haven 12 1/2, but have kept my eye out for an inexpensive H 12 1/2.  I've found what looks at first glance to be very close to a H 12 1/2, and I'm wondering if there is anyone out there that could give me a hand.  I'll have a number of pictures taken tomorrow, and was hoping someone would be able to share some ideas as to what to look for.
There is no builder's plate.  I'm thinking there must be a few items on the hull (or the bronze work) that would be definitive.  I'm not local to the boat, but have a friend visiting the boat tomorrow.  Any advice as to what to look for / photo would be welcome.
Also, if anyone would be willing to take a look at some photos to confirm or deny the heritage, I'd really appreciate that.
Be forewarned, the hull is in a sorry state...  In speaking with the owner, they indicated you could put your arm THROUGH the transom...
Feel free to e-mail me through the forum, or reply here.  All help is greatly appreciated.

OK, here are three shots of the boat.

bow

Looking at the bow chocks, the traveler, the mast location, sole, etc.  It just doesn't look like any H12 I've seen...
Any idea what it might be?

For some reason the pics are not loading on my machine unless I put the direct URL in....Anyway I concur - It does not look like a 12 1/2. Rub rail is wrong, so is the Stem, and the slats covering the ribs are not original. As well as the floorboards. The beam look wider. The hardware that I can see are Herreshoff Style bronze - but there are lots of copy's so....Could be a Buzzards Bay 14 or one of those Furnan built hulls.

An H12 mast does not go through the deck like that.  My guess would be a BB14.

I think Steve is right on with the BB14 ID.  Also, I can say with certainty that the boat was not manufactured by HMC.
The wife says I can have a mistress as long as her ribs are made from white oak.
