Seafarer Class - #1474
« on: October 24, 2008, 03:15:17 PM »
Ok.... A while ago I was intrigued by a HMCo boat called the Seafarer class that I believe was based on the 12 1/2 - only two were built - as new "pocket cruisers". Not very popular obviously. Bray/Pinheiro have a Pic in their book, but I could never see a profile. In the registry Cygnet (1474) is listed as "Unknown". Over on Flicker a guy posted a pic of Cygnet from when his dad owned the boat (early 70's) and even copy's of correspondence from Sidney verifying he believes it is indeed the "Cygnet". I have e-mailed him to see if he knows where the boat is today or what happened to her....

Adam:  how did you find his email address?  Can you shoot it to me (via my own email or PM on this board).  If you look through his album, he 1) mentions that Cygnet spent time at Beaton's, a wooden boat place in Manasquan, NJ, and 2.) he shows a Half-hull of a Watch Hill 15 called Quest.  Quest was just restored (or maybe not even done yet) by Beatons's.  It had been owned there for years by Goerge Lucas.  I am guessing that George may have sold her last year, and Sanscraper may be the new owner.  I would like to find out what he knows.

Thanks.

Woo-hoo! I finally feel like I contributed something  ;D .

There is a way to e-mail through Flicker ("send Flickermail")..... We'll see if he gets it - if he's like me and Jon, he may not reply for a while.... If he dosen't respond next week, I'll talk to Beatons - see what they know....

Very familiar with Beatons - always felt he should be a shop in Maine or at least here in NE - but not Jersey (just kidding   :P).  I always thumb through Russ Manheimer's pics and he has lots of Beatons stuff there - Including the resto of the WH-15 - http://www.flickr.com/photos/sjogin/.

Yup ... I just traded posts with Russ on the Wooden Boat forum.  Seems he knows about Quest (he had photos of her in his blog).  Still owned by George Lucas, and the restoration is expected to be completed by around Christmas.

Heard from Charley - It sounds like he doesn't own her anymore (currently a Tartan 27 and a Marshall 18). I've asked him if he could supply any other details on her, as well as invited to the site....

Well you can label 1474 as "Destroyed"....   >:(

From Charley:

"Adam,

The mystery has ended for you on this one, after owning hull # 1474 for many years and restoring her, I sold her to a young man that neglected her badly. After just two years she sunk at the dock, was raised and then destroyed. A horrible end for a very beautiful craft.

Charley"
