Restoration / Re: Restoration of S Class # 1385

Hi Dave,

Sean Park with S-Class of Western Long Island Sound again. Just wanted to congratulate you on the launch and beautiful boat you are taking care of. Great stuff! Also just wanted to put it out there that it would be great if you could participate in a race with our fleet this coming season. I'd even offer you my best crewman to help out since he knows the waters, starting sequences, etc. We are also having an awards brunch in Larchmont probably in March if you would like to come and meet the class.

Best regards,

Sean Park (Dilemma, originally sail 59, then 12, now 59 again).

Hi Dave,

Congrats on the restoration of Misty/Clara J!

My name is Sean Park and I have the pleasure of being the caretaker for the S-boat Dilemma (1928, hull 1022). We race her in Western Long Island Sound in a fleet of 7-10 S-boats and I learned to love the boats as a kid racing on my dad's boat out of Glen Cove.

Here is our fleet's website (I need to update it this weekend...got lazy this year). www.herreshoff-s-wlis.org. Please let me know if you need any advice on deck hardware configuration, sail selection, etc., or if you would like to learn more about our fleet.

Best wishes on the restoration and for the New Year.

Best regards,

Sean

Herreshoff Sailing Vessel Classes / S-Class locations/owners update
« on: December 23, 2009, 06:10:01 PM »
Hi Gents,

I just looked through the boat locations database for the S-boats and had some updates for you:

TERN: Location = Larchmont, NY. She was bought this year from George Hanson. I'll send the new owner name asap
HORNPIPE: Location = Shelter Island (future location?). She was bought by Jim Stark from Jim Park in 2003 and is undergoing restoration in MA.
Iroquois: Her actual location is Larchmont, NY, not Scarsdale
Kandahar II: Her her actual location is Larchmont, NY, not Westchester
Dilemma: Joel Comer sold it to Alex Von Bidder in 1999 and I bought it from Alex in 2005

Also, there is a boat named Trapper that is in Lake George, NY owned by Harold Kirkpatrick. He bought it in about 1977. I can find out the hull number and other history if you need it.

Any news on another S-Class history book? If so, I think it would be a good idea if I have an opportunity to edit the Western Long Island Sound section. I believe George Hanson contributed to the last edition and I'd be happy to help out.

Merry Christmas,

Sean

Hey gents,

Sean Park here again from the S-Class Long Island Sound fleet. Did you ever figure out which boat this is? I know a boat named Red Jacket was picked up in Maine and brought to RI for restoration. It had a watertight cockpit. We were contacted through our website by the former owner in ME (Crosby Noyes) who said he would give it away for free if it were going to be restored. We put him in touch with the dad of a young man attending the Merchant Marine Academy at King's Point and they struck a deal within a week. So, another boat saved.

Is this the same boat? I do not believe so. It is CERTAINLY an S-boat though. I've seen the lead taken off other boats and thats the right form and size.

Merry Christmas!
