Bingo! We have a winner! And you picked the right photos! :-)
Odyssey is Sparkman & Stephens design no. 155. She was launched on October 22, 1938 from Nevins yard on City Island, New York. And she was built for Mrs. Barklie Henry. Nothing to do with Herreshoff. Nothing to do with duPont. Nothing to do with careful research for this Herreshoff coffee table book, either.
And, as you say, Odyssey is still with us:
http://www.sssodyssey.org/shiphistorypics.htmlIt wouldn't have been so difficult for the author to find out himself.
You are also right about W. Barklie Henry. The Herreshoff Manufacturing Company built for him two boats, the Watch Hill 15 Alert #886s, and the Fisher's Island 31 Cyrilla IV #1054s. Odyssey was built for his (then) wife Barbara.
