A previous posting from RIGGO ....... I have an HA 18 and currently has no electrical system on board. Any suggestions for battery location, switch panel?.......

Cardinal Joe's Pilot foto below......

Custom Teak seat/cabnet.....

Inside of custom teak cabnet

Most Pilots have there Batteries stored in the bow hatch area.

I've also seen batteries placed in the stern of the Pilot under Cat Seating ....

Getting back to this foto , what you don't see is the 30 amp plug-in shorepower receptacle  to the right of the batterty switch/meter units ....

My Pilot has a " Inverter Unit " > 30 amp to 110 volt box receptacle.......

Follow the wiring from the above foto > you can see the Red battery swicth wires , then the one smaller black wire to the amp/volt gauge meter unit and to the left you can see the 30 amp yellow cable line going into the Inverter unit (not shown in foto) then if you look at the upper left hand corner of the above foto there is the corner of the 110 volt metal receptacle box.  Note.....  If a large storm is in the forecast (Hurricane) I may connect a 2 amp battery charger unit , because the Pilot is NOT a self baling boat and needs a bilge pump to remove the rain water...etc,etc.

Wondering whats under that piece of plywood in the stern of the hull (under the blower motor in foto below );

Lead Bars....

Question ? - WHY the extra weigh to the port side of the Pilot's ?  Yes the Starboard side has an 18 gal. fuel tank = about a 126 lbs/diesel or about 108 lbs /unlead gas .....?    The engine & batteries are usually centered in the middle of the hull ......  so, why the off set of weigh to the port side ???    Any thoughts on this subject ??????  Anyone !

I was wondering the same thing.  My Pilot has two big bags of cement in the same location.

Wrong Adam, but I'd guess to offset helm location?

I am fairly sure, based on that description from Dodson's, that the Camden Maine Yacht Club launch is one of them. See the small photos here: http://www.camdenyachtclub.org/facilities.html

If ONLY my eyes were that good!  I've sailed out of the Camden club and visit there several times a year, and have ridden the launch regularly for years. She's perfect for that club, the harbor conditions and her duties.  They'd seriously consider getting another if anyone knows of one.

rbgarr - did the Camden Yacht Club Herreshoff Launch have a "Cat Rudder" ?  Do you remember if she was diesel powered .....  Do you know the Harbor Master @ Camden Y C - could you find out the Hull # or better yet the VIN # of the Launch......

The boat was repowered with a new diesel last winter and I'm pretty sure she has the underslung rudder. Check the Camden YC's webpage for contact info re the launch service/steward. I'm pretty sure the boat is all shrinkwrapped for the winter.

I'd call a cat rudder one that is mounted on pintles and gudgeons on or aft of the transom while an underslung rudder is one mounted under the aft part of the hull with the rudder post through a stuffing box.

The Yacht Club is closed for the winter and only manned by the club secretary who won't have a clue what you're asking about. I'm also not sure what you mean by the harbor master of the CYC.  There's a harbor master for the town of Camden, but he wouldn't know either.  You'll have more luck in the spring, say around June 15, when the club reopens.
