I'm Cruising from Ocean City, NJ to Ocean Reef /Key Lardo ,Fla. been running mostly the ICW looking for Herreshoff Harbor Pilot's ...... Nothing !!!!!   In Hilton Head @ Harbor Town Marina for the night .  This is late in the season for me to head to fla. usually i make the trip before Thanksgiving .  its sad to see how many places and marinas that have closed their doors because of this recession !
The ICW traffic is fair and lots of new high bridges but no Herreshoff sighting ,oh well tomorrow is another day ....... Stay Tuned !

The Christmas boat parade with boats all lit up with lights took place here the other day and there was a Herreshoff Pilot in among the lobsterboats. I saw it about a twenty feet from shore and I'm sure it was one of them.  Then it went off into the darkness with a 'mermaid' fanning her tail off the transom under a lighted palm tree to I don't know where.

I was HOPING someone would bite that hook!  :D  Unfortunately it was too dark for photos, so according to the rules of the Internets... it didn't happen!

Well, leaving Saint Augustine @ sunrise and cruising down the ICW, I had a lucky feeling today! Could I find that elusive Herreshoff Harbor Pilot  ……?  The problem with Fla. is there are thousand of canals & lagoons off the ICW, and I could be cruising right pass that sweet rig and not even know it…… As I was coming up to Daytona Beach , my heart started beating faster knowing there are 4 large marina’s on the ICW , I have stayed @ the famous Halifax Harbor Marina , several times in the past ,knowing its one of the biggest marina in the area , I thought my odds were good ….  NOPE!  So, I continue down the ICW, thinking to myself, Cheez even a blind mouse finds food every once in awhile?   As I’m coming up on the town of Melbourne (use to have a 67 X 100ft long stucco green dragon on its point reef, as a land mark in the past years). Remembering my past bloggs there was a Herreshoff Harbor Pilot located in that town, can’t remember the owner name? …. NOPE!   Sadden I continue my journey south, until I came upon Vero Beach!  Knowing Vero Beach Marina had both dock slips & mooring slips, this could be the place…..  With great expectations I enter the marina longing for a sighting, there in the distance of mooring balls was the majestic hull from 1 to 10 a definite “10”, has my eyes start to wander up, Hum... it was a “Herreshoff American “……  Oh well, heading to the world renowned Sailfish Harbor Marina on Singer island…..  Stay Tuned !

Left Palm Beach this morning after breakfast, decided to go the outside route and run a ˝ mile off  the beach to Miami, connect with Hawk Channel and run down inside the reef to Key Largo…..  Zero chance of spotting a Herreshoff Harbor Pilot today!  The ocean was like a sheet of glass, took some pics of a huge sailboat leaving Palm Beach Inlet next to me ….  Ocean Reef has traffic, lots of Yachts ….. Snow birds are down!

What does someone think would be the smallest kicker/auxiliary outboard motor that a 2200 lb. Harbor Pilot might use for emergency backup propulsion?

Waterjack - I'm thinking a 6 hp would work for emergency backup propulsion?  :)

I had a 4HP Mercury 4 stroke on mine that did the job.

I'm thinking that a 4 hp would be ok on a America or Scout model , but a Harbor Pilot has a diesel motor & 18 gal. fuel tank ......  6 hp maybe the better choice for the Pilot series because of the extra weight factor ?
