FEATHER - Proper Yachts Alerion after Refit
« on: May 19, 2010, 05:56:22 PM »
Am enjoying this Alerion very much. Refit by Guck, Inc in Bristol, RI.

This boat perhaps fits more the 'spirit of Herreshoff'.  Differences from other Proper Yachts Alerions:

1. Backstay and traveller controls led under side decks for easy helmsperson adjustment
2. 105% overlapping jib, hanked on. Tracks on cabin top
3. IMS roach on mainsail
4. Mainsheet led to headknocker on the boom.
5. Full spinnaker set-up for phrf racing. Hoist is at cap shrouds (nearly masthead)
6. Folding Nomen cleats to keep sheest from catching.

Observations:

This Alerion has one of the best ergonomic daysail cockpits I have ever experienced. The deletion of the jib boom and furler really simplified the deck layout. I am really enjoying this boat. Mostly for use daysailing between Newport and Jamestown, RI. Planning on Antigua Classics in 2011. Looking forward to seeing Brion Rieff's beautiful work with his new Alerions.

Hi Peter - Feather is a beauty! Certainly has the "Spirit"! I'm sure you saw the Adam L post on the Herreshoff Designs version that Rieff is doing:

Welcome Peter.  She's a beautiful boat ... in a beautiful place to sail.
